The characters start their journey three years after the conclusion of Ike's previous outing, in a country that developed a power vacuum in the wake of losing their authoritarian and militaristic monarch, the average citizen has been left in poverty and in a state of near colonization from a neighboring country, Begnion. This group of characters inhabit the land of Daein, a country that was recently ruled by the Mad King Ashnard, and was the primary enemy of the Path of Radiance game. The game opens with a previously unseen set of characters, known as the Dawn Brigade, led by the Silver Haired Maiden, Michiah.

The following will contain explicit spoilers for both Tellius games (Fire Emblem 9 and 10), as I reference other games I will mark them appropriately. To speak on Radiant Dawn, I will start on the beginning of the game.
#FIRE EMBLEM RADIANT DAWN SERIES#
That game treads a basic narrative water and executes several themes very well, but I think the sequel is more ambitious, shows more moral greys that haven't really been touched in the series since, and expands greatly on the previously established universe. All the while combating prejudice, seeking revenge for his father's murder, and being the first and only example of a lord (for lack of a better term) in a series that comes from a wholly non-noble background. In a simple structure it delivers an effective narrative centering around the Grail Mercenaries assisting a monarch to reclaim her thrown. The classic journey of Ike in his debut game is a solid journey that delves into several themes of racism, class structure, and personal loss and revenge. In the Fire Emblem community I often see that of the Tellius games, the original Path of Radiance is held in higher regard as an overall package.

This is going to be a bit of a thesis on why I think the tenth game in the series has the most ambitious story in the entire franchise, and is frequently overlooked as (in my opinion) the most engaging story in the series.
